What is Daily Horoscopes?

In the newspapers and magazines there are separate columns for astrology readings. For twelve signs / rashis they provide different readings / predictions. The twelve signs are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. Western astrologer use signs for daily horoscope prediction. Indian vedic astrologers use one more thing, nakshatra constellations for prediction. There are 27 nakshatra constellations from Ashwini to Revati occupying the 360 degree zodiacal circle.

Transit of planets is called ‘Gochara’. While making a daily reading an astrologer consider the position of planets with reference to natal moon position at the time of birth. Westerners use sun’s position.

How reliable and accurate are these daily horoscope predictions? Prediction using a horoscope chart requires in depth knowledge in astrology, various concepts of astrology and astronomy, knowledge of various ancient classical texts, mathematical knowledge and good experience. Due to various modifying factors making correct prediction is difficult. Daily predictions use only birth rashi / sign and give results. I told even with complete horoscope chart and calculation predicting future of an individual is a complex matter. What does this mean? All predictions are fake? No. Study of astrology has been branded by the neo-scientists as a belief in superstition. Greater criticism has been heaped on astrology by those who have never bothered to study the subject. Many critics have questioned the basis of astrology, ignoring the fact that an understanding of a basis has to succeed and not precede an observation. Anyone who studies astrology with an open mind cannot but appreciate the fact that astrology is a highly developed science.

So the accuracy of daily horoscope reading depends solely on the astrologer and his capabilities. If the astrologer is well educated in astrology and astronomy and sincere in his profession chances are that 90% of his predictions will be true.

In tamilnadu and other Indian states almost every magazine and newspaper has a daily horoscope column. Even cable television and satellite televisions offer short daily horoscope readings. Dinamalar, Dhinathanthi, kumudham, Anandha vikatan and other popular tamil newspapers and magazines offer daily horoscope readings. Telugu, kannada, malayala and other south Indian people as well as north Indians are interested in daily rashi palan.
Great importance is laid on transit of important planets like Guru (Jupiter), Rahu-ketu and shani (Saturn). These slow moving planets takes 1-2 years to cross a rashi sign. Thus the effects of these transits will prevails for years. So people makes poojas and other pariharas to satisfy the planet lords. Recently we had Shani peyarchi, Rahu-ketu peyarchi and Guru peyarchi in succession. The year 2009 saw all these transits.

This blog is an attempt to impart knowledge of rashi pala / daily horoscopes. I will try to remove many myths about horoscopes charts and results. I will give step-by-step instructions to learn daily horoscope reading.
